May 1, 2007

Alion Science and Technology announced the Navy’s Program Executive Office for Aircraft Carriers has funded the second, one-year option period under the Program Executive Office for Aircraft Carriers contract, awarding Alion $11m in funding for program management support. Alion is providing business and finance, engineering, logistics, integrated warfare systems and program management support to PEO Aircraft Carriers for the CVN-77 new construction, refueling and complex overhaul activities, In-Service, Smart Carrier, and the CVN-21 programs.

The period of performance for this option runs from January 1 through Dec. 31, 2007. The initial support contract, valued at $125 million, was awarded in October 2003.

The work is being performed at the Washington Navy Yard. There are 14 subcontractors working under Alion on the contract, including: AMSEC/SAIC; Bearing Point, Inc.; The Columbia Group; Gryphon Technologies; Imagine One; L3GSI; LSA; Perot Systems; The Sigmon Group; Systems Planning and Analysis; Systems Technology Forum; Tech-Marine; Tecolote Research; and Virginia’s Philpott Manufacturing Extension Partnership (VPMEP).

Trite but true, the path to decarbonization has no ‘silver bullet’ solution.
