Submission of Information Before Making Port

Maritime Activity Reports, Inc.

January 6, 2005

The IMO issued a Circular providing guidance to masters, companies, and duly authorized officers on requirements relating to submission of security-related information prior to entry of a ship into port. This effort is intended to prevent the proliferation of different demands for security-related information, which are neither conducive to the enhancement of maritime security nor promote the facilitation of maritime traffic. Note: with agencies of the U.S. government unable to agree among themselves on a common set of reporting data, the likelihood of getting the federal government to adopt this guidance is near zero. Trite but true, the path to decarbonization has no ‘silver bullet’ solution.
