Liftboat for wind turbine installation ordered from COSCO Shipping Group

COSCO Shipyard Group Co., Ltd., has signed a contract valued over US$150 million with an European shipowner to build a vessel specially designed for the purpose of installation of offshore wind turbines.

The construction will be the second jack-up vessel which COSCO will be building for the shipowner which will be designed to be able to carry 8 to 10 wind turbines at a time to operate at water depths of up to 45 meters and will have a crane capacity of up to 900 tonnes.

Delivery of the vessel to the shipowner is expected to take place in 2014.

Trite but true, the path to decarbonization has no ‘silver bullet’ solution.
