Maritime Activity Reports, Inc.

September 6, 2006

AFX has reported that Lockheed Martin Corp said its British unit, Lockheed Martin U.K., has been awarded a seven-year contract by the U.K. Royal Navy to upgrade the sonar systems on four Vanguard Class ballistic missile submarines. Lockheed Martin said more than 70 percent of the work will be performed in the U.K. It added the work is being carried out because the submarines' current sonar systems are at risk of becoming obsolete.
