Ballast Water Management Reporting Requirements

Maritime Activity Reports, Inc.

January 6, 2003

The U.S. Coast Guard is proposing to establish penalty provisions for non-submission of Ballast Water Management Reports. The Coast Guard also proposes widening the applicability of the reporting and recordkeeping requirements to all vessels bound for ports or places within the United States, with minor exceptions. The requirement to file such reports has been in place for a number of years, but compliance has been low, largely due to lack of penalties for noncompliance. The penalty of failure to submit the report would be $25,000. Source: HK Law
