Cadets Stranded After Training Boat Breaks Down

Boston.com reported that more than 500 cadets from Massachusetts Maritime Academy were stranded in Virginia after their training ship experienced mechanical problems en route to Europe. The Enterprise was escorted into the port of Norfolk, Va., last weekend. The federal government, which owns the Enterprise, has spent $38 million on renovations to the vessel over the past several years. The planned European trip is the second for the Enterprise since it arrived at Mass. Maritime, which uses and maintains the ship under an agreement with the federal government.
