Sonsub Successfully Uses Diamond Wire Saw

Maritime Activity Reports, Inc.

July 7, 2003

A Sonsub designed and built Diamond Wire Cutting Module (DWCM), integrated with the Innovator 09 ROV, was successfully utilized in the Gulf of Mexico in 6,060 FSW. The DWCM performed a cut in one hour and 25 minutes on an overall diameter of 41 in., including a 21-5/8 in. drilling riser with four additional choke and kill lines.

This is the second Diamond Wire Cutting Module that Sonsub has manufactured for a Gulf of Mexico Contractor, the first being for Shell, which was used to cut a 12 in. pipeline in the Gulf of Mexico at a depth of 4,573 FSW.

Trite but true, the path to decarbonization has no ‘silver bullet’ solution.
