Maritime Activity Reports, Inc.

January 13, 2016

Shipments of limestone on the Great Lakes totaled 29 million tons 2015, an increase of 7 percent compared to a year ago, according to figures compiled by the Lake Carriers’ Association (LCA). The trade also outperformed its five-year average by 5.2 percent.

Shipments from U.S. ports totaled 24.5 million tons in 2015, an increase of approximately 7 percent compared to both a year ago and the 5-year average, LCA said.

Loadings out of Canadian quarries meanwhile rose 11.1 percent to 4.5 million tons, but still trailed the 5-year average by 3 percent.
Trite but true, the path to decarbonization has no ‘silver bullet’ solution.
